A Merchant Ivory Production
Directed by Tony Gerber
Written by Lynn Nottage
Side Streets is based on five urban contemporary folk tales, stories that are rich in the detail and texture of New York City. This is not an anthology film or a collection of short stories. The five stories are inter-cut, woven into one narrative symphony. The film is concerned with lives that impact on other lives and is set in each of the five boroughs of New York City, taking place over the course of one 24 hour period on the hottest day of summer. As the entire city literally hits boiling point, the heroes and heroines of Side Streets are driven to acts of desperate love, hope and surrender, but somehow manage against all odds to find dignity.
